I hate to sound like a complainer but I've already seen so many posts that are outright abusive and pointless attacking one another rather than having a constructive debate. I've seen few leave the forum already and sometimes don't feel like replying without feeling like I 'may get' attacked for saying one wrong thing.

As a former mod in another forum (non-camera related) it's honestly disheartening to see a successful forum losing members and constant bickering over someone that feel the need to attack other members.

Yes I can just leave but there are many helpful members here and people that genuinely love photography that I enjoy talking to and even joke around. But when I see other members who cannot show any respect but rather cause problems it just makes the forum look bad overall.

Do you report the abusive posts via the little triangle at the left of the post window?

In my experience, POTN moderators have done an excellent job weeding out the abusive sorts who happen by now and then. As Gonzo suggested, report the posts that bother you. They will be addressed.

Agreed. This is a rather large forum, and I think they do very well for the size.

To answer the original question; there are 16 Moderators and Admins.

To put it in perspective. As of this writing there are over 395,00 members although some are much more active then others. There are almost 1.3 million threads and over 16 million posts.

We depend on our members to report problematic posts, not to reply to them or engage in the problem. Like gonzogolf said, simply use the "report Post" button

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'text/html'
and state your concern in the dialog box. The next available mod will deal with it.

Bless the recently fallen and their family and friends.

Yep.

It just seems like those posts don't get deleted or the same member goes about it the same way.

Just curious if POTN has infraction system or anything similar in nature? I know mod jobs aren't easy but I just see these sort of trend with members attacking a lot.

The mods have a tough job deciding what is spirited debate and what is an attack, and reasonable minds can differ in that regard.

+1
I've never had my hand whacked for being abusive in posts, but have for posting comments of an off-color/crude nature. I have seen many posts deleted for attacks, and some offenders banned. I think they do a great job.

Yep. I've never like tattletales, but I've reported a few folks for being abusive to others. If you can't defend your position or point of view without making personal attacks, you don't belong here.

Even further off topic: It was suggested to me the other day that my low-light photographs taken with a 24-105mm f/4 lens might show less noise if I shot in Automatic mode.
In hindsight, I should have reported that filth.

Well, given the increased size of membership and popularity has the idea of adding additional moderators ever been floated?

Yes, but we do not accept volunteers. Right now we are in the process of new software so all is waiting for that to happen.
