Sorry for the ambiguous title. I've come across this guy's Flickr which is amazing, especially his food shots.

This especially looks great

How do you think this lighting was achieved? Or is it natural light and good processing? I know the composition and theme is good, but it was the lighting that drew me to it.

Honestly is looks like he overexposed slightly with light from a large source.

Relatively flat lighting and/or tonal compression in post production. Also, probably fiddled with vibrance and maybe used some kind of a filter effect to further enhance the airiness.

I may try bouncing off the ceiling through two umbrellas to keep it flat?

The thing with these shots is that they are thoroughly coordinated. Colors are all light, nothing dark in the frame. Processing is low contrast and slightly bright without being vibrant. Lighting seems to be a very large key light (this can be done simply by shooting a light through a large sheet of diffusion fabric or paper) likely with another light overhead to reduce shadows. Just my thoughts anyhow.

Hi,

I am "this guy" :)

For this photo, I used two studio strobes, one at the right bounced on a white wall and one at the left with a large soft box.

I have also reduced the shadows further in PP and increased slightly the vibrance in Lightroom and applied some light filter in Photoshop (Alien Skin Exposure).

I have also done the pesto sauce myself, but this is another story :)

So you were all mostly right.

Cheers

Really? Hehe, how did you find this?

I really like your flickr man, it's great. Thanks for the info, am sure I will get nowhere near as good results but I appreciate you sharing :)

There was a link on this topic from the referrer stat for this picture on Flickr: no magic or NSA involved :)

Thanks!

in more than one of those examples, he struggles to obtain sufficient depth of focus....

just me though...

For what my comment is worth, I am always struggling with SOMETHING.

Well, I do it on purpose this way: I like shallow DOF a lot :)

But I understand that some prefer more DOF.
