Red Tail Hawk

While at work yesterday, I noticed a couple "large" birds setting on a phone pole. I grabbed the 20D and decided to take a hike. I got within about 70 yards and they decided to take off.

This was my first time attempting a shot like this. I can not believe how difficult it is to get a good shot of these birds!!!! I'm pretty sure the center focus mark only found the bird maybe once Well, maybe I should say I couldn't keep the focus point on the bird. That would be more accurate

Yupe, you got yourself a RTH. Nice job. I think you nailed the focus. The little blur may come from the shake while panning. Make sure you use the appropriate IS mode when panning.

Great shot. I'm surprised it let you get that close before flying off.

I didn't know what to expect. There were two of them sitting on the top of a phone pole.

I saw them again today about a mile from where I saw them yesterday.
