The $1300 figure was the MSRP. Sigma's MSRP's are always much higher than street price.

it wasn't even that...it was just a price that a company in australia put out as a pre-order price...meanwhile another company in australia put out a price of $899

all of it is just rumors until anything official is announced...i bet it's not $790...simply because, what a weird number to choose :)

790$ is quite a price.
But it will be really interesting regarding IQ and QA.

It will be silly if it is not as good as the 35mm ART.

I got an EF 35mm f/2 IS USM for $549. If f/1.4 is your goal, the Sigma is an option. If saving $250 and getting a lens with IS that can reliably and accurately focus is a priority, you may wish to consider the Canon.

At that price, I'd probably have to upgrade my 50 f/1.4 if the lens lives up to the hype.

I agree but I expect more.
But look at the new 30mm art. Sigma QA is really bad there.
Even the all mighty 35mm has its ups and downs and several on this forum have returned it as it had focus issues (I don't think buying the dock to calibrate a lens to a specific body makes the lens workable).

If the IQ is amazing, sigma QA should follow. If the IQ is great but there are too many bad lenses, this will really take sigma name down hill again.

I'm really hoping Sigma keeps pumping out those ART lenses. I have a feeling this 50 will be a winner. Hope they can do a fast 28 ART to compliment it, at least for me.

I sure wish some sample pics would start circulating. If it's anywhere near what they claim, this lens will be in my bag at that price.
