New firmware available for the 6D Version 1.1.4. Doesn't seem to have very much new.

I downloaded it. Before I bother installing it, where can I find out what it is supposed to fix or upgrade? Were any features added?

so in other words nothing of great importance unless you think that these are important

  • Fixes a phenomenon in which some images cannot be transferred to mobile devices running the EOS Remote app.
  • Corrects an error in the German language Feature Guide.
  • Corrects an error in the Korean language Feature Guide.

Good to see that Canon are willing to spend time on this camera.

Makes me want to upgrade to a x-t1 :)

No AF @ F8.
No EC with Auto ISO at Manual.

Yep, sounds like a great upgrade.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I was hoping it would contain some sort of fix for the GPS battery drain, but it looks like I was hoping too much.

That's already taken care of. Disable GPS if you don't want updates with camera "off" -> no battery drain.
Leave GPS enabled if you do want updates with camera "off" -> learn to live with battery drain.

Maybe the second (EC in M with auto ISO), but the first one I really doubt. Canon has for long kept that to the 1D-series, and just the fact that the 5D Mark III has it must have caused a minor revolution in Canon's castle.

Not quite. All that's still required is a further setting which will activate the GPS when the camera is turned on and then deactivate the GPS after a certain period (say 10 mins) of inactivity. This period could be user-determined.

Not a difficult firmware fix, but one which would make the camera's GPS a lot more useable.

Well, it doesn't offer much. I installed it anyway. It took a lot longer than any previous update I've done, maybe 5 or 6 minutes.
