So I joind DWF because of a promotion I purchased. This was a 6 month usage of the site. I was unaware the six months later they would auto renew for $69.00 from my paypal account. I receive a invoice stating they renewed my subscription. I immediately contact them and told them I wanted a refund and to cancel my subscription. Well they replied that they could not. Well I know this to be a lie because I have received refunds from merchants before through paypal. Am I being wrong for requesting a refund or should I suck it up and take the loss? I am prepared to call them out of the business practice on there on site and any other means to get the word out.

100% you.

Certainly you've seen this kind of trial period before. And if not, giving them your account info without reading the terms is your fault, not theirs.

The whole concept of a trial period is to plan that people forget to cancel. That's their business model. There's no such thing as a free lunch. I once took advantage of a discount with the cable company. At the end of the period, they slapped me with a bill that basically recouped for them every penny that they had discounted. When I called to cancel, they offered to extend the discount for another six months, after which I'd be having the same conversation all over again.

Gotta read those terms bud. It's usually a given thay if you don't cancel a trial period before it ends, you'll be charged something. A company isn't obligated to refund you simply because you didn't do your part to understand what you were agreeing to. Take it as a lesson learned.

Side note, I don't think they're saying it's impossible to refund you through PayPal, they're just saying they aren't going to. Rightfully so.

I suspect you will have an uphill battle on this one (i.e., unwinnable).
Virtually every free trial offer comes with an automatic renewal, and, if you read the terms of the free trial (normally in fine print) the automatic renewal is there and you agreed to it when you accepted the trial (whether you read the terms or not.) If you need to give them payment info to participate in the trial, it is because they will charge you at the end.

Free trials with automatic renewals are very common. Amazon Prime is the one that comes after me persistently (I know most love it, I normally get free shipping from amazon anyway, I just have to wait the 8 to 10 business days.)

$69 is not that bad, I'd chalk it up to experience and do whatever you need to do to make sure it doesn't automatically renew at the end of the first paid period and just move on.

They said they 'can't' refund your money; 'won't' would have been more accurate.

Be nice, pretend to be a complete moron and hope for a partial refund as a goodwill gesture.

Failing that, try looking for someone who' wants the subscription. Offer it at a discount.

Let's just say lesson learned on setting reminders for things that renew. I believe between my email and calling the company and leaving numerous messages. They gave in!

Thanks for reading.
