I am building a portfolio for accreditation by Special Kids Photography of America. Yesterday I photographed Deric who is severely effected by Autism. This was my first formal session with a special needs child, other than my own daughter, so I learned a lot and really enjoyed it. Here are a couple of pictures:

Parents of special needs kids love photographs as much as any other parent. Are you suggesting that special needs kids shouldn't be photographed?

I don't think he's saying that. Just the name of it makes it sound like they're specifically being photographed because of special needs, and not just parents wanting pictures of them. Just a guess, though.

Very cool. I volunteer for a nonprofit that helps children with challenges and also helps adults with challenges find jobs. We're currently refreshing our website and I'll probably be searching for positive photos like these in the next month or two.

This is really great. I volunteer every year for our local Special Olympics. It's always great to see these children enjoying things that they may otherwise miss out on. It's nice that this is another opportunity for the children and parents. This is just as important as them participating in the Olympics and similar events. Keep doing what you're doing!

Very nice. You and Deric seem to have made a connection.

Great portraits and connection with Deric. Special Kids Photography of America seems like a very worthwhile organization with a lot of positive energy. Good luck with your accreditation!
