This morning I was trying to take a "bracketed" photo and my 7D would shoe a err 30 which is the shutter error. Tonight I took the grip off installed a battery and took severe shots and no err 30. Could the grip be sending this error code or not.

Yep, it could be caused by the grip, particularly if it's an after-market model. What kind is it?

It still could be causing the problem. Try it without the grip for a while and see if the error returns. Then try cleaning the contacts on the grip with a small amount of rubbing alcohol and a clean cloth. While you're at it, you may as well clean the contacts on the camera too. Hopefully that will clear up the problem.

I had no luck with whacking it or changing the watch battery. Ended up sending it in.

I did not have a grip in use at the time of the error.

Okay, then the fault is with the camera body. So it's good that you're sending it in. Hope that you get it back soon.:)

Rick you didn't say if it was a OEM Canon grip, but I have to say I have had little to no luck with 3rd party groups with my Canon equipment. I tried them with my 5D, 7D and my 5d Mk III. I just sucked it up and get the one from Canon.
