I have zero 1DX experience, so I can only give a 50% opinion.

I have a 1D4 and a 5D3. The 1D4 is better between them for sports, mainly because I think it drives AF motors faster and the burst speed / lag time is better.

I do not doubt the 1DX is great, but it is a lot of money. If you are looking at high ISO noise, what I can tell you is the 1D4 and 5D3 are about on par. I'll use either up to ISO 12800 for large prints, and no higher. I don't know if the 1DX from RAW is capable of better.

Long glass is a huge factor for me, I shoot a lot of 300-400mm but there 4.0 and 5.6, just can't see dropping the money the want for 2.8 with the great quality the high ISO images these cameras produce. I'll be shooting a lot under the lights and with only F4 or more if I have a converter on I need good lowlight performance, that's one reason I've used the MKIII is it's great at low light, the 7D I really am pushing it in some of the conditions.

Not willing to spend on 300/400mm f2.8 but willing to drop $6k on 1dx.:) Get the f2.8 lens and 1dmk4 if 7d still doesn't cut it.

Lol....... ounces are pounds, pounds are pain, some of my other work requires me to carry gear on my back long distances. If I was just using this gear on a ball field or such and not having to carry it for long periods on my back I'd consider it. Ty for the input though.

I just purchased a 1Dx to upgrade from my 7D, after using it for a couple events I can honestly say get the 1Dx it utterly embarrasses my 7D in every way. You will be completely happy with the 1Dx set it up well and you'll never use another camera ever again :)

Dude you are so right... I felt the same way and could not wait to sell my 7d.

Now I have a mark III for my back up camera.
