Thanks for the advice people. I quite like the look of the rainsleeve. nmay buy one to try out as they seem cheap enough :) just need to get waterproofs for myself too! i'm going to have a hunt around for the tents too. the only thing i don't like is that if i have a car sliding towards me i want to get outta there sharpish as there are no barriers where i shoot! lol

I wouldn't sit in a tent.

I would just get a cover. Carry a cloth to clear your lens if you take a gust to the front element. You'll be fine so long as it doesn't take a literal bath. For yourself, just get waterproof boots and clothing, with a hat or something that helps keep it out of your face but doesn't interfere with being able to look through your viewfinder.

No barriers at a wet motorsport even, you definitely want to be able to run. Can't recall how many YouTube videos of dudes getting flung in the air I've seen!

If you get super serious, maybe just look into potentially moving towards equipment and lenses that are water resistant.

Very best,

Heya,

Weather/Dust "resistant". Not proof. Huge difference.

But really, if the camera body itself isn't also resistant to weather, then it doesn't make a difference and you still have to cover up and protect the whole thing. The 7D for example offers some weather resistance, and would make sense for you (a refurb can be had for $700~800 which isn't far from the cost of your 700D new).

Very best,

No Canon DSLR or lens is fully weatherproof.

Some are more weather "resistant" than others.... with some additional seals to help keep out mousture and dust... But none are truly waterproof, dustproof or weatherproof by any means! (Unless you get a Sea and Sea or similar underwater case for the camera and a short lens.)

At least get a plastic bag and protect your gear with that. Lens, camera, everything. A couple rubber bands, some gaffer tape and a clear plastic bag are all you really need. The OpTech Rainsleeves are good, too. I have those for my cameras, both versions (one is lens and camera, the other covers lens, camera and a flash).

I also have cheap ($3) plastic ponchos in all my camera bags now. Those are to keep me and the rest of my gear in either a shoulder bag or a backpack dry, too.

Not at all. They call it the dust pump because so much air gets into it and it has no sealing at all.
