just need to get waterproofs for myself too! i'm going to have a hunt around for the tents too. the only thing i don't like is that if i have a car sliding towards me i want to get outta there sharpish as there are no barriers where i shoot! lolI wouldn't sit in a tent.
I would just get a cover. Carry a cloth to clear your lens if you take a gust to the front element. You'll be fine so long as it doesn't take a literal bath. For yourself, just get waterproof boots and clothing, with a hat or something that helps keep it out of your face but doesn't interfere with being able to look through your viewfinder.
No barriers at a wet motorsport even, you definitely want to be able to run. Can't recall how many YouTube videos of dudes getting flung in the air I've seen!
If you get super serious, maybe just look into potentially moving towards equipment and lenses that are water resistant.
