That is not the import. That is the USA lens on B&H. In fact the import is still $1179.

I paid around $200 more when I bought mine. What a good price. I don't think I have ever seen it that low, although I may have missed past sales of this lens.

If you have a crop camera, you absolutely can not go wrong buying this lens. Unless I am shooting birds or some other wildlife, then this lens does not leave my 7D.

I've also seen a few nice used copies 17-55 floating around POTN/FM in the $550-$650 range recently.

To me it seems like a great time to buy this and/or the 24-105 kit lens.

I wonder why Canon is suddenly lowering the price on this excellent lens. Not so much with build quality, but the glass and AF are great.

I concur! I used to own this lens and the optical qualities are superb. It's an excellent lens for a crop-body camera.

Wow. Is that good? How would you compared it to 24-70L?

It's been that price for 2 months unfortunately and it sucks for those trying to offload their 17-55's. Such as myself. haha

IMO it is to the crop body, what the 24-70L is to full frames. Perfect focal length. I never cared for the 24-70 on crops, but loved it on my 5D2. When I had crop bodies the 17-55 was on my camera about 95% of the time.

It has to be a matter of time, and hopefully sooner than later, that the replacement with fancy plastic body, new coatings, and improved IS, basically the f/2.8 version of the 15-85, comes out. I too am a little shocked how much 17-55 has dropped in the last few months, but hope that the timing with a 7d replacement could mean something.
