Hello! Last night I went out for about the fifth time to attempt aurora photography. I'd welcome any pointers anyone has about improving my results. They were active last night but not super intense (kp 2) while I was out. I heard they got better after I went to bed, but isn't that always how it is?

All of them are at f/3.5 which is the widest aperture on the lens I had with me and 18 mm focal length.

Here are a few from my previous attempt, an even more low-key aurora night:

Nice shots. I like the first one. I'm assuming that's an airplane on the right side. Looks like a shooting star.

I take horrible pictures. I think I need a more expensive camera.

The second is my favorite of the series although I do like the shooting star in the first.

Some more images last night. The moon was bright and we're headed into 24-hour day months now, which made things tricky.

I think the actual auroras were about the best I can do with the equipment I've got with the display and light conditions that were on last night, but I'd really appreciate any suggestions or feedback about the compositions and whatnot...

I think they're great. You probably just need it to be a bit darker, which I'm guessing from the pipeline, might be a while.
Where are you located ?

Steve.

Middle of nowhere, Fairbanks area :D Yeah, it's going to be months before we get much proper dark again. It's down to a few hours a night now - there was a little low-intensity display during that time last night, though, which was nice:

I feel like with photos like the last one, I could have cranked up the exposure, and pushed it in post-processing to bring out the auroras, which would get a more dramatic photo, but I'm inclined to let them stay more like what I actually saw.
