mistake
mɪˈsteɪk/Submit
noun
1.
an act or judgement that is misguided or wrong.
2.
An error or fault resulting from defective judgment, deficient knowledge, or carelessness.

Your so convinced that i'm lying to you that you don't even realize that mistake is a synonym to fault...but its alright, everyone make's mistakes.

so are you now "tap dancing" on the whole situation ?

tap dancing

A diplomatic approach where one skillfully maneuvers to avoid direct answers.

eg; Hillary did not want to step on anyone's toes so she was tap dancing.

Lies are most often mistakes. The terminology is not mutually exclusive. But using the term mistake has a distancing effect. One of the greatest Non-apology apologies is to make a claim that mistakes were made. It gives the air of Apology without truly owning the responsibility of the mistake. Sadly i get the sense that Porky is employing this tactic. There doesn't appear to be any acceptance that the responsibility for the bulk of the screwups lies with the OP. I suspect he still views himself as a victim of circumstances that forced him to justifiably commit bad acts. Only by owning up to the true nature of the Intentional bad acts will the OP earn any respect here and self respect in the long term.

Telling something to someone that you know is incorrect information is not a mistake. It is a lie and deceit. You knowingly told your clients that you had lights when in fact you did not. That shows that you thought about it before you said anything to them and lied to make yourself appear more professional.

If I told you I was a millionaire with a Porsche but in reality I take the bus and live in my moms basement, is that a lie or a mistake?

I'm wondering why we've let this little troll gather our attention for twenty pages worth of good advice on the forum members' part and arguments and excuses on his part. He hasn't learned a thing other than how to argue his faulty logic. I say let the little bugger wallow in the messes he's created.

I'm surprised the birthday girl hasn't chimed in with comments, the photo's are still up on Flickr and it doesn't take rocket science to see the original post with link to same.

Have you ever lied before and then regretted it later? would you call it a mistake to lie in the first place?

Ok, im going to try my best to make myself clear here :

Im sorry! Im so sorry!!!! I never meant to lie. I thought at the time I was doing the right thing, but I was wrong and made a mistake. I'm so sorry and i want the WORLD to know that I am SORRY!!!! I was under pressure, I was not entirely sure what exactly to do, I messed up and im SORRY!!!!!!!!

Is that a sufficient apology?

You don't owe anyone here an apology.

This is just more bull**** rather than learning. The lie was only a mistake because it failed. The lie is a lie not a mistake, and if you want to succeed in a customer serving industry, there's no room for it. There's always room for mistakes;), we try to mitigate, but **** happens.

Get your head round that. It's not a mistake, because it only becomes a 'mistake' when you realised it was the wrong thing to do. Just try to figure out how to stay calm and be honest with your customers.

That's been the advice from the beginning, and it appears you still can't see the importance of it. Even though this experience should have taught you that without half the internet telling you the same thing.

It is learning Phil, I learned what not to do...don't lie to customers. even if they are really small lies.

It's not a mistake, because it only becomes a 'mistake' when you realised it was the wrong thing to do

I have realised it was not the right thing to do.......so it was a mistake. And just because you don't realize its wrong doesn't mean its still NOT a mistake?...that makes no sense.

That isn't an apology.

1) You "never meant to lie". Bulldust! Of course you meant to lie. You deliberately chose to do it several times.

2) "I thought at the time I was doing the right thing". You thought offering a refund then retracting that offer was the right thing = screwed up morals and ethics.

3) "I was not entirely sure what exactly to do". So you resorted to being dishonest several times. In life in general do you make a habit of being dishonest when you don't know what to do?
