I have found some images on the net taken by a T5i with kit 18-135 STM lens that have ISO at 125 or even 2000. How is this possible? (on my T5i I am only able to do 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, 6400, 12800)

I have a T4i with the same lens. Page 91-92 explains that with auto iso the actual iso the camera uses may be different than the iso that displays on the LCD when you are taking the shot. Check the manual for the T5i about auto iso. It is most likely explains what you are noticing.

ISO 5000 would be a typical Auto ISO setting for an indoor available light image with that camera and lens combination. The tipoff is the 1/40 shutter speed.

A T5i will use ISO 5000 in auto ISO mode in low light conditions. Again, the equipment appears to be operating properly, but in a situation you have never encountered.

From all appearances the equipment worked correctly and there were no problems.were

Heya,

When using AUTO ISO, it will use 1/3rd stops ISO even. I've had values like 1250 come up when in AUTO. But when selecting ISO manually, I get full stops only 100/200/400/800/1600/3200/6400/12800/etc.

The values you're seeing are in the 1/3rd and 1/2 stop values between full stops.

Very best,

Is there a function that enables the use of 1/2 or 1/3 stops. There is a function on my 7D that gives you the choice or else remain with the standard 100, 200 400 etc. Have you looked in the manual?

Very best,

This. I think, it happens only in M mode. Otherwise, it will try to adjust shutter speed or aperture in stead of doing 1/3 iso adjustments.

Sounds about right. Pointed my 700D/18-135mm STM out the back door for this shot. Manual mode + Auto ISO. Camera displayed 400 ISO, EXIF reads 320 ISO.

Model = Canon EOS 700D
Exposure Time = 1/160"
F Number = F5.6
Exposure Program = Manual
ISO Speed Ratings = 320
Metering Mode = Pattern
Focal Length = 135mm

I think it was with my T90 that Canon even specified that the camera internally would set the exposure time and aperture (ISO wasn't variable when there was film in the camera) in steps of 1/16th of full stops, but it would only display half stops in the top LCD and viewfinder LED.
