Hello, this my first post and before my eBay buys my Canon cameras ranged from no battery to mercury batteries (2B rangefinder, ft-QL (2) and F1. Now I have an equally ancient D60 which came with no batteries but the battery pack. Does a BP 511 battery go in the camera itself with the battery pack or just the two in the battery pack? I need to know before I buy batteries. Thanks in advance.
Welcome to the digital generation (just).
I would expect it to take two in the grip, the grip itself then fills the battery compartment of the camera with the contacts, assuming you have the BG-ED3 or compatible grip. So you just need the two batteries.
BP-511s aren't the longest lasting batteries though, I used to carry about half a dozen with me if on a full day shoot at an event, although I was using two bodies and taking a lot of shots, so you may want to buy 4 if you are likely to be doing a lot of shooting between recharging opportunities. You don't need to buy original Canon ones though, you can save a huge amount of money by buying reputable third party ones (such as Sterlingtek in the US). I bought a pack of 5 third party BP-511s when I first went digital, they cost me less for the 5 than the price of ONE Canon branded one, and the third party ones were higher rated and lasted longer on a charge as well. After 5 years use, the two original Canon ones, that came with the cameras, had both crapped out on me and were failing to hold a charge, but 4 of the 5 cheap ones were still going strong (2 of them are still going now, 9 years after I bought them).
