This is actually a shot I will probably redo because this was a shot from my 3Ti on Magic Lantern intervalometer. Not specifically focuses on my wife.
She was checking her nails before she started trying to choke me. Just looking for general feedback on the shot.

Having looked at it for a while, I like it but I'm not sure why. It just appeals to me and I find it interesting.

The under lit face and checking her nails spoils it for me.

Thanks guys. I do plan on reshooting, and this time I will be behind the camera instead of just letting it shoot in the ML intervalometer.
Spike, I definitely see where you are coming from. It isn't even in focus, but as Woodworker said, it just stood out to me because it is just one of those pictures that shows something, I am just not sure what it is.

I find it interesting too, but the highlights have lost some detail, either in shooting or processing.

Thanks Lilly, I will have to keep an eye out for that on the next shoot. I think it was from the processing more than anything.

Call me a silly old fool but I'd assumed that was done purposely and, at least for me, made the picture even more interesting :)

Not a silly old fool, silly. :)

I re-read the OP's information before I submitted my comments because I thought perhaps it was something he was trying - but all I saw was a request for general feedback. So I offered my first impression, which was blown highlights. I try not to make assumptions because I'm nearly always wrong!:lol:

Definitely not deliberate. I almost did not process it at all because of the missed focus, but as WW said, it just kind of had something about it. Still not sure what it is. I did not dodging or burning and it could definitely use some of that if I decided to go that way. I think a reshoot is in order, but I am sure it will be different since my wife will know I am shooting it specifically. It will not be as raw as one that was just caught because the camera was just clicking along.
I do appreciate the feedback, no matter what it is. We only get better by trying and having others see what we might not see ourselves. I should definitely not have missed the blown highlights. But sometimes we don't see what is right in front of our face.

Perhaps your camera metered on her face and therefore brought the highlights up too much?

I thank you both for the kind words. The way I look at it is this. I asked for comments, I learn by these comments, what is there to be negative about? And what you have both offered is constructive suggestions and that is what I have seen for the most part on this forum.

The only thing I do not like about the shot is the white line through the shoulders. I don't mind the highlights at all and the softish feel is just acceptable. What i think this shot doesn't have is a mood. If this could be shot again in a zen or meditation state, it would be great. You could direct the head to be in different positions (low, medium, up) with eyes closed. My brain is telling me thats what I expect to see. A martial art uniform in a state of relaxation, concentration and meditation.

Great observation roodig. I had not even noticed the circle bisecting her shoulders until you mentioned it. Maybe I will reshoot on the other mats that don't have the wrestling circles on them.
Thanks to all for the great feedback. This non set up shot will definitely be reshot with the observations noted and set up this time.
Without your help, I don't know that I would have even wanted to reshoot. Now I am kind of excited for it.
