Hi Ron,

Here's an article from Adorama about choosing an SD card for your cameras;

http://www.adorama.com …my-point-and-shoot-camera (external link)

I'm currently using a Sandisk Extreme, Class 10, 32 GB, 45 MB/s card in my G11 while we are traveling. I've been shooting mostly Jpegs also, but sometimes I shoot Jpeg + RAW, and some video. I want to keep all my shots taken during our month of travel on one card. I'm also transferring copies to my laptop and cloud storage along the way, in case there is a card failure. When I get home, I will transfer all shots from the SD card to my desktop.

I have another Sandisk Extreme, 32 GB, 80 MB/s in my Samsung NX20. The NX20 RAW files are larger, so I wanted a faster transfer speed for it.

Dennis

A class 6 or better card is required for that kind of camera. Class 10's are my choice in the Sandisk Extreme 45 mb per second. For the cost of a card and the amount of time you will get out of it. it is a small investment. I choose Sandisk because I have never had a problem with any of them in better than ten years and that includes being submerged in salt water. The latter required no more than a fresh water rinse and a hair dryer to perform flawlessly. DAMHIK

I have a 32GB PNY Professional class 10 and a 16 GB Performance PNY class 10 SD card for my G15. They were cheap. The 32 GB was $25 on Black Friday weekend, and the 16 GB was $15. Hardly a price worth fretting over since my very first memory card was a 1 GB CF card that cost $190 10 years ago!

8G may be small if you happen to decide to have some video's captured. I use 32G Sandisk Extreme 45Mbs/C10 in the G15. Lately I've been contemplating 64G sized cards but this also is relative to how much you shoot. The last trip out I shot 345 mixed still and video files in 3 hours at a theme park. 16G Sandisk cards are quite reasonable in 2 packs and that would be mu suggestion. Try them for your events and see. If you need more, then you can go bigger. 8G unless one is a frugal shooter is smallish IMO.

For my uses, I have 2-32G when I carry the G15. I also am wary of the, "all eggs in one basket" but this is a balance of convenience too. Battery or memory card swaps can be a nuisance if that occurs during a heat of the moment event. If you also have an SLR on trips, being able to swap memory cards if necessary is a big help. You would want to have sufficient space available in those instances.

On trips the card is backed up each night so concerns over lost images is reduced.
