I'd like to get a little more out of my Milkyway nightscape RAW's when it comes to processing. I've got a pretty good handle on the technical side of shooting the MW and now I want to fine tune my processing abilities and start printing images.

Here's a before/after of a MW image I shot last year. Any C&C, tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a link to the original .CR2 if anyone is interested to give their own editing a go.

It looks pretty good but could be better. This video helped me a lot, it's basically just selectively bringing out the MW without adding too much contrast and sharpening to the rest of the sky

Nice work though! I've been much happier with my MW photos since I started using the processing from this video

I should have mentioned; Lightroom is my only editing software. The video does have some good fundamentals for editing astro though..alot of technique I can probably take over to LR.

Thanks!

Absolutely. I do most of my processing in LR5 and then bring it over to PS6 for final tweaks. The nice thing about photoshop is doing selective curve adjustments to really add contrast to the light and dark areas of the MW. But you could do basically the same thing using the adjustment brush in LR.
