How do you handle your canon file naming convention. Example, the default IMG_0001. After IMG_9999 I assume it goes around again and starts again at IMG_0001. I store all my RAW files in one directory by camera name. My JPGs are filed by year and event so thats not a problem. So in my T4I directory I have all my raw files. If it starts repeating after IMG_9999 do you rename them so the new files don't overright the original?

I use photo mechanic to cull through my photos first and then when I ingest them from photo mechanic onto my computer or storage they are renamed by shoot and date. That's just my way of doing it.

Heya,

I store all my shoots by date, so that the RAWS just sit in a folder with the date and a tag of what the subject was. So I can go back based on time/date and see a tag to know what I did that day.

Very best,

I store mine in folders for date taken and also change the in camera file naming from IMG to something that matches the body like 1D4(this not prevents the bodies from potentially having the same name but makes it so I know which body was used just by the the file name). As long as I don't take more than 10k picture per body per day I shouldn't even have any issues.

I use Lightroom and import to separate folders by year and date of download. I rarely download immediately after a shoot since as a hobbyist, I may take 5 shots, then go two to several days before I shoot again and get enough on the card that I feel it's worth downloading. I then create a new subfolder in the import dialog with the current date (today would be 3-27) under the parent folder 2014. I then assign keywords to each as necessary so that they can be easily retrieved. A single image can have 4 or 5 keywords attached depending on the subject, location, season, lens used, etc. When I sort for any of those keywords, that photo will be filtered out of the catalog for display.

This way I never have to be concerned about how the camera numbers the files.
