I've had some photos of Thor's Well before, but I was never 100% satisfied with them. The lighting just wasn't quite what I wanted or the tide was wrong. I was able to get some "good" shots, but it wasn't exactly what I had pictured. Finally got a chance to go back when the tide and sunset time lined up and the weather was right. Three shots, two a bit different (trying to convey some different mood, I dunno how good of a job I did) and one that is more of the "cliche" Thor's Well shot (pffft, whatever, it's pretty I think, lol).

Nice work. Thor's Well is hardly as cliche as say... Antelope Canyon, the Wave or Mesa Arch. I like the third photo. Have you thought about cropping it and putting the horizon in the upper third?

Nice shots. The third one is almost scary.

- I discovered I scream the same way whether I'm about to be devoured by a great white shark or if a piece of seaweed touches my foot.

#3 is my pick. I might try an 8x10 crop and lose about 1/2 of the sky. Considering you had no cloud cover I think you did well. For the first one, maybe a 2x5 crop and bring up the shadows a bit if you can. I do like the mood in this one and the glimmer of light on the water in the foreground.

This is a very tough spot to shoot. I timed my visit there to line up with sunset and high tides and it got brutal ; ) I was lucky and had 2 nights of pretty great skies. I shot right on the edge of that thing and had a few walls of water crash on top of me. It was fun, and a little scary haha.

I've lived in Oregon for 25 years, and never heard of Thor's Well. Another reason to take a day trip to the coast. Thanks. By thd way, #3 is my favorite.

I've heard of it and have driven by Cape Perpetua a dozen times in the 25 years I have lived in Oregon but have never actually taken the couple of hours to stop there. Somehow that makes me feel worse than never having heard of it..

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Thanks for all the kind comments and critiques. ;-)a And meh, don't think of it as a reason to feel worse...think of it as a good excuse to go explore somewhere new!

#3 is by far my favorite. That's a wall hanger for sure. It definitely is a place you need to have the timing right (I never do).

Next time we go to Florence, I have some place to go instead of the in-laws RV for fun :-)

I've never heard of Thor's Well - what a neat spot. I like the third photo the best and agree with trying a different crop to eliminate more of the sky. The colors are really pretty and I like how you capture the water in the third one.

All right, I made a few little edits. I lightened up the first and second one slightly (not too much though I didn't want to lose the mood, and slightly cropped the third one. ^_^ Thanks for the feedback. I didn't want to lob too much off on number 3, as the shot just does not look "right" to me as 16x9. But I think you guys were right in that there were a little too much sky, and it looks nice with a couple extraneous (spelling?) rocks on the left lobbed off.

Yeah the third image is the clear winner to me. Love the contrast with the rock and the softness of the water. I bet the slight cropping of the sky helps it some.
