has anyone had both and was there much difference in the 2,i have a f4 is and i like it but the noisy is really bugs me,sounds cheap to me,theres a 2.8 m1 is for about the same price as i could get for my f4,a bit more,i tried the m2 version at my local cam shop and it was silent,i don't know why the f4 is so noisy,

I've had both and overall preferred and went to the 2.8 v1. When the 2.8 v2 came out I then upgraded to it. I believe the upgrades were beneficial. I mainly photography weddings, seniors and families.

thanx for the reply,i use the 200 for mostly landscapes and my kids but sometimes shoot indoor sports so i thought the 2.8 may help a bit in that department,is the image stabilization rated the same 4 stops in both lenses, the 2.8m1 came out along time ago not sure if they are different,

I originally bought a f2.8 (non-IS) for indoor sports, but it turned out not to be fast enough. I became very fed up with the weight and size of the lens, and ended up selling it and getting the f4 IS instead, plus an 85 f1.8 for the indoor sports.

thanx for the reply,ya i am a bit concerned about the weight, and the fact my filters won't fit the 2.8.i just wish canon could have done something about the noisy is on the f4.im still a little shocked a 1300 lens can be noisy,

Have you had the lens checked to see if the noise can be fixed. Maybe you just got a bad copy?

i haent had it checked out but after a google search and reading many threads on here i see its very common, like i mention I'm a little shocked such a pricey lens can sound like that,my sigma is whisper quiet and the kit lenses i had were silent and i recently got a canon 18-200 is and its silent too,not sure what happened to the f4 in engineering

You are going to want the f/4 if you putting a priority on weight. Otherwise, go with the first version f/2.8
