Tried today but getting a vantage point was tough!

The body is a little too dark for my taste on #2 and #3 ... Might want to bump up the exposure in lightroom. Besides that, great timing!

In looking at your shots, that high sun really makes it tough to get nice shots. If you look at #1 the high vantage point gives you a pleasing, clean background and that is nice. Looking at her face reveals that half is in sun and half in shadow. If you were able to move toward camera left (third base line) you would have a view of her face that was all in sun and much more pleasing.

On #2 and #3, the faces are in full shade and that can be really nice because then there will be no shadows crossing the face. When shooting back lit or when shooting an athlete wearing a helmet or visor, it is often necessary to boost the exposure compensation in order to properly expose the face. Parts of the image (shoulders and top of the head) may appear overexposed but that is fine as long as the face looks good.

BTW, don't be reluctant to shoot through the fence. Use a large aperture and get really close to the fence.

You can also try spot metering the face/jersey to see if that helps getting a well exposed face easier.

Good job getting a mix of angles, this field it seems like way high or way low are going to clean up the background much more than just an average standing or sitting height.

I prefer the timing with #1 over #2 since with 2 I have to study the image to know what she is doing (and get lost in the houses to the left before finding the ball or the mound); but with #1 I know she's pitching right away.

Thanks for the tips.
It's very hard to get a clean back round since these are played on youth fields and they are very small.
Shots of the batter are always going to have the apposing dug out in view or the stands that are right next to the fence.
I could blur that back round in PP but it would look quite Photoshop faked.
