It seems the 5D is leading in your poll

I noticed that also. Seems everyone like the AF of the 1D but would choose the 5D overall

If you are considering the 5D II, please consider the 6D instead. They are basically the same price for the body and the 6D is rock solid in low light. But it can;t beat the AF system in the 1DIII

This is a really solid recommendation as well. If you spend enough time on the forum, you'll know how often the 6D is raved about. ISO performance is apparently pretty sweet. More bodies to consider! :D

From what you mentioned in your original post about what you shoot, sounds like a 5dii or 6d would work nicely for you. Although I prefer 1D bodies. :)

You voted for the 1D, didn't you? ;)

I guess I should ask though, what is the budget? For not much more than a 5dii or 6d you could get a 1DsIII. (They are starting to go for under $2k) Best of both worlds there. :)

trying to keep it under $2000 I have looked at the 1Ds and it is going for over that. Would prefer to keep it around $1500

As much as i love the 1d series, the mk3 was a dog.
I would take the 5dmk2 (i would take a 1dmk2 over the mk3 too, so strong is my dislike for it)

I havent shot with a 5d2, but i cannot imagine its AF would be any worse than the 1d3 bodies i had
The 1dmk4 was a great step up, if you can stretch the budget to one, i was perfectly happy with mine, and would still be happy to continue to shoot with one (but work issued me 1DX as part of the upgrade cycle, and i wasnt going to say no)

what was the problem with your 1d3?

Both of them had issues, terrible AF, rediculously bad AWB, had to fight it to get decent pictures
When we got everything right, it was brilliant, but didnt get it right very often.
It seemed to be a step back from the mk2n i had before it.

Not used a 1D3, but currently use a 1D4 (my favourite camera by far). I did have a5D2 - absolutely loved it, but it was let down by its rather basic AF. But takes stunning images. Even my ancient 1Ds2 has a far superior AF to the 5D2

I have a 5D3 as well, but the 1D4 is the camera I always reach for first - the AF, the ergonomics, the quality of its images.

Not used a 1D3, but if it is anything like the 1D4, that is what I'd be going for.

The 5d3 has the 1dx AF system and its iso performance is better. I loved my 1d4 but really only the ergo and the little extra reach are only the things I really miss from my 1d.
