Just tried one of these on a d800e and it is indeed impressive on several fronts. The IQ is quite nice and it's cheap!!!!! $300 + tax + shipping for a well designed ultra wide angle. I was impressed. The build quality was quite good and I love aperture ring and manual focus control. This is a great alternative to the much bigger and more expensive 14-24 zoom. The lens is largely rectilinear with well controlled distortion. It's light and small. No filters unless you rig up something with Lee or Hi-tech 4x4 filters.

I mustache you to reconsider the suggestion it is " largely rectilinear"

It doesn't have much in the way of mustache distortion. At all. The 21 Zeiss does. It does have barrel distortion in the middle. Picked up a new copy for $265 shipped off flea bay.

I will know shortly and confirm your hunch either way.

The mustache distortion can be fixed very easily with lightroom.

This image was fixed via the Samyang 14 camera profile. All the straights are now straight :)

Here is the holder, and filters. Looks to be only useable for the 14mm though.

Nice shot, Matt. Is that the cathedral in Wells, UK?

Not quite - it's Norwich Cathedral. About 250 miles away. But very easy mistake to make as there are so many similarities with churches/cathedrals over here :)

Cheers btw :)

Wow, I guess so. The cathedral in Wells has a virtually identical hallway setup at 90 degrees like that.

No, it does. There's a LR profile floating around the net that makes an attempt at correcting it (to be honest though, I haven't actually shot a grid to test it) and it does make a fairly significant difference side by side.

It's a superb lens nonetheless. I'm selling mine since I'm moving away from Canon, but I'm sad to see it go - had loads of fun with it.

Should be in lens section? There is a good thread on this lens. I have had mine for ages and it malkes great images - download the LR lens correction it works very well. Just fitted an AF chip to mine (make sure it is one that fits your camera some don't work on recent cameras.) Bonus this will help ident the lens for correction in LR.

You can download the required profile for Lightroom from the Adobe website.
