I'm learning more about flash (after nearly three decades of avoiding it like the plague). I'm getting more comfortable with it, and I've decided that I'd like to get a flash bracket. I don't know much about them, and I'm finding things a bit confusing. I'm thinking that the Custom Brackets QRS-E2, might be a good one. It looks like I'd need three extra pieces on top of the bracket.

I would like a flash bracket that could do double duty on the astrophotography setup I'm building. Specifically, I'd like to be able to mount the flash bracket to a ball tripod head, mount my camera to the flash bracket, and mount a guidescope to the top of the flash bracket (where the flash would normally go). I don't yet have a guidescope.

Is my hope of finding a flash bracket that could do double duty as a flash bracket and a guidescope mount something that could work? Is there a different flash bracket I should be looking at?

I don't think it will matter what bracket you use as long as the guidescope can be rigged in such a way to line up right every time you put it on. The key will be getting a guidescope that has enough adjustment so that it can be dialed in where you need it to be and a bracket that will have very little slop. Depending on the guidescope you'll need to find some kind of way to rig it to fit into the hotshoe. But then again, if you have adapted the guidescope to fit into a hotshoe, you won't actually need the flash bracket.

At least that's my guess. I've used both things before but never together.

Thanks, kfreels. :)

I've been able to pick up a QRS-E2. I was also able to pick up an F35-N1 flash mounting plate for it. I took the brass thumbscrew out of the plate, and I think I should be able to affix the guide scope bracket for the "Orion Magnificent Mini AutoGuider" to the F35-N1. I may have to use JB Weld, or similar. I don't have my autoguider yet, so I'm guessing at this point.

The parts I need to use my camera with my flash, as well as the camera mounting plate and the tripod mounting plate have been ordered from B&H. I'm really impressed with the fit and finish of this flash bracket!
