wow just read the specs on the new nikon 1 v3 ,incredible 20fps at full resolution and autofocus and a mind boggling 60fps with fixed focus,is this the step new dslr are heading in?i thought my 70d was decent fps until i read this new review, incredible, price wasn't that bad either, how can there be such an incredible jump in fps from say 7 which i thought was high to a mind boggling 20 or even 60,is canon lacking in technology or is the new nikor just a gimmick?

The smaller sensor in the V3 (yellow box vs. APS-C box) produces less data, which allows a higher framerate.

There's nothing magical about the V3. As with many things in the tech industry, it's a compromise between speed and quality.

Its not even an end all for cameras in its own weight class. It could shoot 100fps but it wouldn't matter if all 100 images looked like crap.

Size of the sensor doesn't matter. Number of pixels does. Usually smaller sensors have fewer pixels but it doesn't seem to be the case here as it's a 18mp semsor pretty much in line with APC sized sensors. Getting rid of the mirror helps a whole lot though as does improvements to the electronics needed to move the data.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

the new sony a6000 has something like 12 fps. personally I like what sony has been doing. Continue to develop the lens line along with releasing new bodies and theyre golden.

All the Nikon V series cameras have very fast frame rate, af is essentially instantaneous on them. The V3 is getting a fair amount of negative press for being over priced. It might be, I don't know. DSLR killer? I don't think so but given another couple more iterations of these things and they might be closer. Most reports I have seen indicates people are buying the V3 for travel and the ability to use existing Nikkor lenses on it. I've been fooling around with the AW1 mirror free camera with the FT-1 adaptor and my Nikkor lenses, its surprisingly good and I can take it underwater with the two lenses I got with it that are waterproof. I might grab the V3 later this year, not sure yet.

thanx for the informative replies,so yes I noticed the sensor is smaller but the megapixel count is same as say a 60d,how can a processor process 20 full resolution photos in one second,is the technology better in these mirrorless cams,it also has a electronic viewfinder for old school users,is this the way dslrs will all be soon,a few of the sites I looked at for this model were either sold out or not in stock yet, price seems ok for the specs,so im a bit confused,is 18mp on a 1.6 crop the same as 18mp on say 2.5 crop,is mp the same on all sensors.

On paper it seems amazing but in practice will it produce?

Exactly my thoughts. Starting from scratch I decided to pre order one and several e mount lenses instead of going back to a slr... Wouldn't have considered it with a sensor any smaller though which I think is what will kill the market on the V3

It doesn't have the mechanical limitations of a mirror. It is also buffering the data at 20fps, not processing it. Just like any other camera when the buffer is full you have to wait for it to clear.
