As the title suggests, they have released new lens, some of which could be good for astro work. See HERE (external link), link is to B & H Photo

I just got the Rokinon 8mm fisheye HD with removable hood (external link) yesterday. I'm looking forward to trying it on the first clear evening. :D

Yes, the 10mm f2.8 (external link) is looking good.

Hot damn this is looking pretty sweet. Perhaps I will have to wait to get an astro lens until this one gets released. I could not find release info about it though. I would also like to see some images of the fisheye too. Still on the fence about what to get.

It would have to be pretty good to make it $100 better than the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 when you factor in the added versatility of the zoom, autofocus and aperture control.

At $399 it isn't anywhere near the Tokina lens pricewise. I think the Tokina lens goes for almost $600, no?

I just followed Frank's link to B&H which had it at $529 and the same site has the Tokina at $449. Since I already have the Tokina, I didn't dig any further than that.

For the canon mount it is being sold for $399 but the Sony mount is $549. However it is really a moot point because this lens will only work on a mirrorless camera and will not work on EOS bodies. Apparently you can use EF-S lenses on mirrorless camera with adaptor but not the other way around. Bummer. Guess it's back to plan A which is Rokinon 14mm 2.8.

Hmmm, the B&H site that I liked to above includes this text -

The Canon EF mount Rokinon 10mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS CS Lens is a prime, manual focus wide-angle lens designed specifically for use with APS-C sized image sensors.

the review I saw for the 10mm rokinon said the corners were really soft at 2.8, much worse than the rokinon 14mm and the tokina 11-16.

It appears that the mirrorless cameras are also APS sized sensors. This is from Wiki.

"The Canon EF-M lens mount, introduced in 2012, is a derivative of the Canon EF lens mount (external link) designed for use with the Canon EOS M (external link) mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera (external link). It has a 18mm flange focal distance (external link) (compared to 44mm for EF and EF-S (external link) lenses), though as it is designed for use with an APS-C (external link)-sized image sensor (external link), it features the same crop factor (external link) (of roughly 1.6) as the existing EF-S lens mount. It allows the use of Canon EF and EF-S lenses with a Canon-made adapter, but it is not backwards-compatible with Canon's existing DSLR cameras.[1]" (external link)
