I don't think this would be a Kickstarter, this would be more a 'GoFundMe' type of deal I think. That said, if someone were to start one to recoup that $1000 to get back to the purchaser of the lens, I'd be interested too.

Thanks, Bernie. I'm not a good enough person to start one myself... but I'd chip in. We've all felt a bit leery buying off of Craigslist (which is the main reason I like to get boxes with my used gear - indicating it's probably not stolen).

Given the same circumstances, I don't think I'd be as selfless. Maybe my conscience would get me eventually... or I'd return it expecting some media attention and praise or hope that there'd be some sort of return. Yes, I think I'd be that selfish.

A used Tamron 24-70? Nearly $1000? That's more than I would pay.

That's journalism for you. I see them on the FS forum for around $900... "nearly" $1000 sounds better and just stretches the truth.

Interesting that he created it himself. But... he also closed it himself, after getting the $500 donation. That said... the "nearly $1000" he reportedly paid for the Tamron, according to the article, was made "whole" by a $500 donation. Like I said, "That's journalism for you."

Makes it seem like, to me, that the kid also already suspected that the lens was stolen because of the "to good to be true" price on the lens. Either way... good for him. He got 15 minutes of moderate fame. I feel positively inclined towards the kid.

The only issue is to catch the person who stole the lens in the first place.
