My 565EX shoots a funky looking red AF assist beam.

The YN-622c triggers also offer AF assist.

The YN-E3-RT also has an assist beam, and they announced a separate unit
that is only an Assist Beam, but I have not seen it for sale yet. It is cheap,
under $20.00 so I will probably grab one when it does.

Here is a link to the announcement on Flash Havoc for the Yongnuo YN-12-AF (external link)

You know what's funny is, I actually taped over the assist beam because it's a rather large pattern and it was distracting in the environment I was using it in. Just some food for thought.

One can usually switch off the assist beam.
