I'll say it again. I think Canon is dragging their feet because the 7D2 has probably already been surpassed by other cameras that are already on the market. How embarrassing would it be for them to bring out a successor to a 5 year old camera that is already passed by? Just my opinion of course.

Its prime competition, at least its intended competition, is the D300s. That too has not been updated in years.

You can repeat it 1,000,000 times if you want, but that doesn't add a smidgen of evidence to your opinion.
It's a rumor forum and everyone is making up isht (including me). That doesn't make it any more true that it is...

Ummm....duuuuhhhh

I didn't say it was fact based. Unbunch your panties.

I am getting impatient. Hurry up Canon: announce the 7D II already!

David, you are a landscape photographer. You already have the perfect tools. What do you need the 7D for? ;)

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

Intended competition and what is available are 2 different things.

So what camera has come out in the past couple of years that would have competed against the 7D, that had something truly great on it to send the 7D2 back to get better?

since we don't have anything on the 7DII it's hard to say. But if I had to pick one camera that I'd trade my 7D in on, it would be the a77.

What's really bad is that I had to look up the specs on the one you mentioned to see the specs. I don't follow Canon enough let alone the other players, so I was honestly curious, BUT that is a nice looking camera. The only good thing about waiting for the 7d2 for me is that my new camera fund keeps growing.

I have a 500mm lens. I was going to sell it because I'm not really as dedicated to wildlife photography as I thought I might be, but I've decided to keep it (we've got some awesome wildlife refuges in my area). So, if the 7D II takes a strong step towards higher image quality and high ISO noise, I will strongly consider buying one to support my 500mm lens.

I can get very good image quality with 2x on the 500mm using my 5D III, but AF is more limited and if the 7D II beats the 7D in image quality, then I would get better results with 500mm + 1.4x + 7D II than the 2x on the 5D III. I'm willing to give it a try anyway. :)

Yeah...that camera is a complete sleeper. I'm really sorry I didn't know enough to look into it then as I do now. But, as the saying goes ...you live and learn.

The positive is what you said. The savings continue to grow as we all wait to see what Canon will bring forth. I'm just thinking they've waited past the point of no return at this stage. Time will tell.

If Canon does fail...the other positive is that the a77 is below $800 for the body....remarkable.

The 100-400 II would make a great kit lens for the 7D II...

Especially since the 100-400II is going to be a constant f2.8!

My thinking on the subject is that the Canon "x"d line is going to be full frame only in the near future. Instead of updating the 7d to the 7d Mark II, they established a new line to carry on this traditional standard when they made the 70d. That is the new high end enthusiast level Sports / Wildlife camera. In a year or two they will bring out a 70d Mark II that will be the camera everyone is expecting as the 7d II.

Now the question is what will they do with the 7d line? To be a full frame that is an upgrade of the 7d line, it would need to be faster, 10 fps (my guess) and the ISO ability of the 6d. As for the resolution, it will likely be somewhere between 16 1/2- 20. That is my guess what we will see. Because that is what I expect, I assume the timing on the release on this "new" version will be after the sales of the Canon 1dx start to slow way down due to everyone expecting a new version of that camera to come out soon.
