Im shooting a documentary, a part of the documentary will be interview style, where people sit down and what not, fairly easy. My biggest problem I noticed a while back was sound quality, since then I did buy a NTG-2, Tascam DR-60, boompole and some lav mics for this type of set up.

But the other half of the interview will be more of a street setting, with random people who I wont be able to attach a mic too. Whats the best option for audio, obviously on a shock mount but I dont want a lot of wind surface, should I take the boom mic outside as well. I tried using a shock mount with NTG straight to camera (before Tascam) and the audio came out poorly. Link to my campaign for those who want to check it out here (external link).

The best option is to have a separate person to handle audio by operating a microphone and getting it near the person who is speaking.

Unfortunately, even the best unidirectional microphones are vulnerable to pick up excess ambient noise. For decades, the most effective video and film crews have had one person assigned to handle the camera and another person who operates the boom microphone. There's no good way around this long-standing procedure.

As you progress, you'll probably be introduced to something called double system sound (external link), which is another necessity.

Ahhh, well thanks for that link, I'll look into it now.
