Bought a 'new'tripod this week. Took it apart, cleaned it, lubricated all the parts and put it together again. Boy, isn't it a beauty. Only weighs 8.5 kg.

Nothing beats wood for stability and adaptability to varied terrain. But they are a little heavy. If you're not going far from the car, you'll love it.

It's a Berlebach, made in Germany. I guess it must be something like 20 years old, but still 'einwandfrei.'

That just screams "studio". Looks great. I've contemplating picking up a Berlebacher tripod for studio use for a while just because they're so damn good looking, just a bit too heavy.

I was using wooden tripods back in the 1970s-80s. I did a heap of 4x5 industrial work back then. I was also younger and fitter.
