Lightning Trigger

What's everyone using? What's the best one out there. I have done little research on this and thought I'd post my question here. I have a 60D and a T2i and I do lightning photography here in Arizona during the monsoon season. I normal just use a open shutter at night for my lightning captures but been thinking about giving a lightning trigger a try. I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

The lightning trigger is a great way to catch lightning flashes. I just set mine up (preset aperture, shutter speed, turn of auto shut off), point in in the right direction and walk away. Come back later and it has done all the work for me. I have had the lightning trigger for about 3 years now with no regrets. You might need two different ends for your 2 cameras, but that's no problem. Currently using F9, ISO100 and 2 secs. This year, I am going to use a variable neutral density filter to try and get multiple strikes.

wow great shot! So what's out there that works good. I saw some lightning triggers on Amazon but not sure which one to purchase.

I use the Patchmaster. Works really well and is reasonably priced. One trick I've learned is to still shoot longer exposures.

These are the 3 most popular with photogs I know that shoot launches at the Cape and storm chase. I bought a nerotrigger last year but have not used it yet.

The Camera Axe with the light sensor can also be used as a lightning trigger. I haven't used mine that way yet, but I eventually plan to. It's kinda pricey for just lightning though, but it has quite a few other fun uses.

There is a KickStarter product that is about to be released in the next few weeks. Below is a link to their website...Not my product, but was a backer @ 6-9 months ago. It will include a lightening trigger, laser trigger, time lapse and is designed by modules depending on the things you want to shoot..I was looking for their initial product videos.Looks promising.

I just picked up a LT4 from Lightning Trigger.com. I've spoken to the owner at a convention the last 2 years, and finally decided to move forward with getting one. I know several people that have found them to produce as advertised. A friend of mine just picked up one of the knock off brands for much less. We'll be shooting them side by side in June on our annual storm chase vacation, so it'll be interesting to see how they perform.

Hey thanks for that link, I was looking at the Opteka LTX-80, Amazon has them for $80, but now will wait for the kick start project

Well I should have listened to the advice here.....I got the $80 Opteka LTX-80....it worked in motion mode but not lightning mode, so I'm returning it.

Is that kickstarter project launched and can public buy it yet??

Yep. Everyone seems to think they need to buy another gadget...

Unless you really need to catch lightning in bright-light conditions, you're far better off just machine-gunning in continual mode.
