Fairly new here, and was hoping to get some feedback on one of my shots that I was going to order some prints of. I really like this shot of my wife, and it was just a random one I snapped while trying out a new lens.

I'd wanted to order a print to hang in my office, but I decided to play around with the post processing some. I realized that the original was pretty dank and dreary... not a lot of brightness to it.

Feel free to edit it however you wish... though please let me know what you did so I can try it out on the full scale one.

Original: pretty much everything on auto, did some custom WB, and ran Noise Ninja

My edit: custom values in camera raw (used some of these: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=95468), some shadow/highlights adjustment, Noise Ninja, and then some slight USM (10%, 60 radius).

On the edit, the flesh tones look a lot better, but I think the shirt sleeve stands out too much. Could I duplicate the layer do like a selective mask on it? I tried playing around with the contrast and saturation on it, but couldn't quite get it to where it would look and non-distracting, but not heading back towards looking dreary.

Here's my take. I have taken a few liberties and it's how I would like to see it everyday.

I have cropped it and made it black and white. Then I added a film grain. It seems softer and more timeless, but hopefully you will get more ideas. I used a b+w filter and a sample of an actual film grain. See if it's a route you want to go down and I'll give you the specific info.

Adjusted Shadows/Highlights
Duplicated layer
Changed new layer to Soft Light (opacity 29%)
Flattened image
Changed mode to Lab Color
Added curves layer
Pulled in ends on a and b channels
Slight s-curve on the lightness channel
USM on lightness channel only 100/0.3/0
Flattened image
Changed made back to RGB

The side of her face is blown out, but to be honest, I quite like it.
