This last photo is of a rock located in our chimney. The crevices were caused from many years of water erosion while other rocks we picked up from the creek are smooth as glass.

Richard, I love your gnarly weather pic!

Barbara, great shot. Very gnarly indeed!

Tim, definitely gnarly. The add is also very funny. :D

Steve, beautifully gnarly tree and rock.

I think it qualifies Levina. I believe Gnarly is most defined in one's mind. Good one.:)

Thanks, Terry. I love your reasoning! :)

After all the comments about definitions of gnarled I feel much better. I've been trying to redo the wool thing, but really, those loose things you buy in the shop are sooo not photogenic. I put a pic behind it, so it would be more cheerful but not much I could do with those things. Look here:

I tried all sorts of things and in the end totally lost it. That's when I came up with a pic of a little village rising up from behind gnarly grey mountains... Oh and look (no not you, OhLook) there's also a gnarly tree in the village! :D

I'm having so much fun with this.

By the way: I don't knit. This wool was my mother's who did knit. She knitted socks, dozens of pairs of socks. Great socks. I still wear them. And she gave me these bundles of wool so I could repair the socks in case I got holes in them. Yeah, right...

My post is an example of "slang" or colloquial language.
Does that make sense ?

My wife and I were discussing the definition(s) of this week's theme when we walked past this sign and she said: "Now that's gnarly. My wife is never wrong. So it must be gnarly...

That's great, made me laugh!

What beautiful wood and that erosion is really cool.

Barbara, Terry, Steve, Levina--all excellent choices of subjects. Very gnarly.

Tim, I don't even want to think about it.

With the loose interpretations this week, I believe that the following qualify as gnarled, in some sense or other.

1. Reinforcing rods at a construction site.

2. These tubers that are trying to peer out of their box aren't very bumpy, but they seemed figuratively gnarly to me, kind of primitive and ill-tempered.

My gnarly means gross. :D

This is a section of a transmission we pulled off a truck today.
I'd say it's one gnarly looking transmission.

Tim, I would never argue with a wife...ANY wife, so gnarly it is....and I don't have to know much French to agree! Both the picture and the ad are truly gnarly!

Levina:
Love your wool gnarls...specially the first one! That arrangement of wool is particularly pleasing to a student of things gnarly!

OhLook;
Bundles of re-bar certainly qualify as gnarly in my mind...just handling that stuff can be tough on the body and soul!

As for those tubers...I hope they didn't escape....they look positively mean!

Stina:
Tell your husband I think his boots are way cool!

All good gnarly stuff folks! Isn't it amazing how ideas can develop and take form!

Wool and needles in my hands would definitely be more than slightly gnarly.

It absolutely makes sense. Another misinterpretation from me, I'm afraid. I had just said to you that you are "way cool" and then you almost immediately after say "way cool dude" to Richard, so I naturally concluded that my "way cool" had something to do with that.

Truly, this is the thread of misinterpretations and blunders for me...
