The answer is in this link for LR. Preferences - presets. There are the two check boxes you can either select or deselect based on if you want to default to the camera serial number or not and iso.

I just set my clarity and vibrance to my default settings, my masking slider to 80, enabled my lens and CA corrections. Both the check boxes in preferences were disabled. LR 5 is a bit different than 4. The instructions say choose default from photo but it is actually in Develop - Set default settings.

All the files I import now default to those custom settings and now the lens correction enables automatically.

I did that with my 5D3. Even though I did not enable the two check boxes in the preferences I'm not sure why it would not work with my 7D. I had to do repeat the process with a 7D file which was no big deal. I noticed it does specify the camera when you are following the process.

Read tip #1 under the screenshot of the LR preferences. This also applies to ACR. You can click the link for an example.

So thanks again Dennis. I'll slowly add NR based on ISO settings as I go. This will make a few things easier than some of the presets I have or syncing.

"I'm not sure why it would not work with my 7D". Duhhh. It was right under my nose. One check box is for the cameras serial number.

Wow. I just opened a RAW file in ACR and all defaults I applied in LR were added in ACR. Less work for me :)

Thanxs..hm..but without syncing it, how do I make it (in ACR) to make this adjustment automatically?
Do I have to save it as a preset and make it load that preset by default or something like that?

(Yep, rather new to ACR...)

Basically you can open preferences when you are looking at an image in LR. I can't find a way to do this when I open a RAW file in PS. Since I set my camera defaults in LR and ACR automatically picked up my new camera I have not gone through this process n ACR.

1. Open PS and then click on Photoshop - Preferences - Camera Raw.

In the Default Image Settings dialogue box you can select if you want your new defaults ISO and your cameras serial number specific. If you select ISO then it will apply only to the ISO of the RAW file you will be working with. If the RAW file is 100 it will only to ISO 100 shots. For your purposes I would not check that box tight now. For the camera serial number. If you check it then it will only apply to that specific camera. If you have 2 x 5D3's then it will only apply to 1. If you don't check it then it will apply to both your 5D3's.

2. Close the preferences.

3. Open a RAW file. Make sure it is not an old processed one because ACR will remember the settings and will apply them to your new Camera Defaults. If it is an file you have already processed reset everything back to Adobes defaults.

4. After you open the file go to the Lens Correction tab. Check whatever you want to be enabled each time you open a raw file.

5. This next part is up to you. If you want anything like a your own base sharpening, noise reduction, colour adjustments that you automatically adjust or have in a preset - you can make those changes as well. This way every time you open a file your lens correction and other adjustments will apply as well. If not you can add them later. Also you can always reset them if does not work out.

6. Then you click on that icon and Save New Camera Raw defaults. Now all the raw files will now open and the Lens Correction will be enabled for that camera model for each type of lens you have used. If you have 7D, etc you have to repeat the process for each camera type.

Here's some more screen shots for you as well, to add to (or compliment) what Digital Paradise posted. Plus I needed the practice as well!

@ DP: I think you have to set the "Enable Lens Profile Corrections (Setup Dropdown)" to "Auto", but "Default" may work as well ?

Step 1.
Open a RAW image to work on in ACR that has had no prior adjustments. Open the "Preferences" dialog:

IMAGE: http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp49/dougle/POTN/RAW%20Converter/Step_01.jpg

Step 2.
Click appropriate boxes for "Auto Tone, Serial Number, and ISO" if you want. Click OK to close the dialog.
IMAGE: http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp49/dougle/POTN/RAW%20Converter/Step_02.jpg

Step 3.
Click on the "Lens Corrections" tab to open the dialog.
IMAGE: http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp49/dougle/POTN/RAW%20Converter/Step_03.jpg

Step 4.
Click on the "Profile Tab" and put a check in the "Enable Lens Profile Corrections" box. Click on the drop-down arrow for "Setup" and pick "Auto".
IMAGE: http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp49/dougle/POTN/RAW%20Converter/Step_04.jpg

Step 5. (optional)
Click on the "Camera Calibration" tab and set a 'starting point' profile for your workflow.
IMAGE: http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp49/dougle/POTN/RAW%20Converter/Step_05.jpg

Step 6.
Click on the little "Menu" icon circled in the screenshot to open a list of options. Click "Save New Camera Raw Defaults" and that's it!
Close the RAW converter and the next time you open an image in the RAW converter your new defaults will be in effect.

Oh that is where you open the preferences dialogue. I quickly scanned through those icons and missed it. I did this via LR so that was new to me. Thanks Dennis.

I left all my settings at Default and it picks up all lenses for both my cameras in both LR and ACR.

Note: As I was goofing around in ACR I clicked on Reset Camera Raw Defaults and it reset both ACR and LR. A quick fix but good to know. My guess is if I make a change in ACR and click on Save New Camera Raw Defaults it will apply them to LR as well.

It appears you can add changes later. When I opened a file in ACR the Save New Camera Raw Defaults is greyed out however if you make any new adjustments it activates. I'll go through NR for ISO as I go. Still on the fence as I find NR a personal touch type of thing but I guess if you have lots of files and need to be down and dirty it would be helpful. Sorta feels like I spent years learning how to not use auto when it comes to camera, flash and PP and now I'm going back to auto :) At least I'm controlling it.

Thanks for the pointer on Tones.

I'm going to stick to Adobe Standard for colour. I shot on Faithful for years but have gotten used to Adobe colours which I think have improved a great deal in the last few years. I check the profiles and compare on a new import. Syncing is easy at that point if change the profile.

I remember setting up a custom import for LR that added lens profile correction, but it added the same lens profile to all photos even if they were shot with a different lens. I'll have to take a closer look to see what I did wrong.

You made me think about it so I verified it. I just imported two images taken with my 5D3, one with a 24-70 and the other with a 70-200. It is showing the correct lens for each image. I verified it using DPP info as well. I just left the lens correction profile on default and t seems to be working. I should have done this a long time ago.

Well I can tell with even trying to figure it out took very little time. It won't take you long. Syncing is so simple and quick it was never really an issue but I am enjoying this new feature. Still deciding about ISO.

So ...with the lens profile correction, if i use my 70-200 with the 1.4 extender, LR does not recognize the lens.. with the extender attached, would you still use the same profile correction for the 70-200?

That is what I would do. I looked through the lenses listed in LR and it does not have extender options. DPP does.
