It's been a while since I've had an opportunity to do ANYTHING with photography so I was real excited to dabble again this week (spring break for the kids!). I had an image in LR that I put into Silver Efex, played around with it, liked it, and hit SAVE.

When it showed up in LR again there was a large black square on part of the image. ??? What's that? And how do I fix or avoid it again? I've noticed in times past that on a few of my images that come out of Silver Efex there are little areas that show up. I'd appreciate any advice. Thank you!

I've never seen that myself. Is it just in the preview, or is it in the actual image itself?

If it's showing in the actual image, it sound like the Nik Collection is doing something odd. Perhaps try uninstall and re-install of that if you haven't already.

Have you tried deleting the messed up file and saving it again? Sometimes when I export a batch of files from LR, Windows Explorer shews one or some of them with half of the image missing, but when I open them they're fine. What I do is what I suggested above and then they come up fine.

I thought that that might be the case but after saving it to my computer and then opening it up the big black square was still there.

davidcrebelxt - it did not show up in Silver Efex, just after it went back to LR.

I may try the uninstall/reinstall to see if that helps.

Alveric - I did dump the file but I was so fed up about the whole thing I haven't gone back to try to redo everything I had done before. I'll work on it again in a bit.
