Minimalism




Minimal, minimalism, minimalist, minimalistic, pick your term, take your photograph and submit it here. I'd go into further detail, but that would counter my minimalistic theme...



This challenge begins when posted, and will end at 10:00 p.m. Pacific time Thursday, 17 April 2014. Winner of this challenge will be announced shortly thereafter.

Standard Rules apply:
Photo Submissions:


1. Camera - Any Canon DSLR Camera
2. Time - any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible, although photos that have won other competitions should NOT be entered.
3. Size - Please visit Image Posting Rules.
4. Post-Processing - do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.
5. Posting - * ONE PHOTO per photographer in each challenge.* Photo Name in the message subject line.* Camera model & lens used.* Notes -- post brief EXIF data including ISO, shutter speed and aperture used.
6. Commenting - No commenting during challenge. When the posting is closed and a winner has been declared, comments can be made in this thread.
7. Keep it clean, and both Family and Work safe.
8. Have questions, PM me.
9. Have FUN!

Thank you all for your "expressions" of minimalism; it is an eclectic collection you have submitted.


Something a bit different from me this time; my comments are based on my initial thoughts and feelings when reviewing your submissions.

Allen--Simple and vast, the darkness is heavy...forbidding. There is nothing in the distance, but this "nothingness" resonates wit a quiet guttural intent. There is a heavy weight in that "nothingness".


Gman--A reflection upon a reflection, alternate realities separated by a static bridge. These realities are constantly changing, evolving around the "static". Earth, wind, fire and air are all present here...think about it.


Scatterbrained--The line sweeps up from the weight of the frame, then gently arcs; sweeping away into the unknown. The frame is alive, breathing and very organic in feel. Flight from oppression is one breathe away.


Maureen--Avent, Phillips, Silicone. Man-made, copy, facsimile. Suppression of individual thought by way of human pacification, to falsely convey contentment. To remove any and all questions...


Teekay--An oasis in the rough vastness, but with no access to it's resources. False advertisement, a broken promise.


BambersImages--Binding, restrictive, controlling. Manipulation and filtration, not the whole story.


Charlie--Daunting task, against the odds, great distance to one's goals. Hopes and dreams are one shot away, and everyone gets at least one shot.


hokiealumnus--Misshapen and jagged form dominates the more organic textures. Against the grain, opposite, different. individualism through vivid expression.


Joe--Fertile with the promise of new life. Ebb and flow, to and fro, back and forth, like every new moment that comes to exist. The very Eden we dream of, at the start of every new day.

Congratulations to Scatterbrained and to Allan and Joe (I did finally figure out who Jason was talking about!).

Very interesting subject, Jason, as it forced me to look up minimalism and see some things around my house in a new light, including that socket on an outside wall. Here are a couple of other shots I took but decided they weren't minimal enough.
