I have a lengthily tutorial on one of my favourite output sharpening methods but recently made some changes that has made it a bit more simple. If you want to see some of the steps in more detail you can check the RSS at POTN link. I use for single hobby or web images as it really is impractical for many images unless you have time. I use LR and rely on the output sharpening for multiple files.

RSS at POTN

The newest action I have created is available to any one who wants it at the end. If you have PS6 it will work but you may need modify it for earlier versions.

I created this action to resize as well and based it on the 3 following links.

Primary Process

http://www.earthboundlight.com …search=edge+mask&bool=and (external link)

Resizing

And the Sharpen filters

http://www.youtube.com …ure=player_embedded#at=20 (external link)

Note: For resizing this is just for making the image smaller, not larger. If you want to increase an image you should watch the Resizing video. For Sharpening I use Smart Sharpen, Amount 300, Radius 0.5 and Remove = Lens Blur.

OK here is the basic image.

1. Press the play button - circled

2. The action stops and Image Size dialogue box comes up. Enter the height or width you want and press OK.

Note: Resolution is 300 because it does matter for screen viewing and I'm just on Bicubic because the dude in the video said I should be. He explains why in the Resizing video.

3. The Action stops and reminds me to view at 100%. Press stop and then view 100%

4. Press Play again

5. Now the mask comes up. Notice all the light grey in the background. That will be sharpened as well and will sharpen any existing noise.

IMAGE: http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d74/Zenon1/New%20RSS/Image-5_zps81772d91.jpg

6. Use the input level slider to taste to clean up what areas will be sharpened. Notice how much less will be sharpened in the beak as well. I pay attention to skin tones of people and around the eyes, etc. I try to keep skin tones pure white.

IMAGE: http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d74/Zenon1/New%20RSS/Image-6_zps39d822d6.jpg

7. Press OK and the final over sharpened product will appear. Use the Feather slider and cool to taste. When done flatten the layer.

Here is my action if you are interested. There is a second one called New Smart 200. The Smart Sharpening is Amount = 200 if you want less aggressive sharpening but I rarely use it.

Enjoy

Thanks a lot I am a more of a Photoshop cc then lightroom person, but I been using smart sharpen then high pass, I printed out both methods and I see that the high pass is a little better then the smart sharpen.

THANKS... that is the way to go..

High Pass is an excellent method. I use RSS because I like the feathering back feature. I found no two images are alike and for me it is easer to over sharpen and go back than try to get it the first time. Thanks for trying it.
