Nikon & Sony are making news on new cameras and Canon nothing?

What gives, thought there was to be news on the Canon 7D replacement in March, again nothing?

The T5 IMHO is a disappointment

They may have run up against the limits of their manufacturing technology.

For all the good their lenses and AF are, they can't release a sensor that can match the D610 or D800 in the IQ-focused full-frame market, nor do they have a crop sensor that can compete with the Nikon crops. That leaves them releasing successive generations of cloned Rebels, as well as the 1Dx (which, being focused on speed and high ISO rather than ultimate image quality, is something they can compete in). But the 1Dx is only 2 years into its product cycle and they're already releasing new Rebels every 6 months or so, so there's nothing else they can really release at this point.

Funny, I was just going to make a thread like this. It seems like every other camera company is releasing amazing new things every day at every trade show, and Canon still has the same sad stuff on the shelf from three years ago at the same prices... a least for their enthusiast and professional market.

It cracks me up that they seem more concerned about making sure everyone is charging the same amount for their outdated equipment then actually releasing something new people would be willing to buy at retail prices. I had hoped that by now a 1DX would at least run $5,500 new, but no.

One has to wonder if their silence means they have really gone back to the drawing board to come up with a new camera to put them back at the top of the game, or have they just given up?

Nothing to woory about. Take pictures in your mind using the rumors as virtual gear. Sure, they're hard to sell and share, but you'll be way ahead of the curve. Sketch them out when you get home. :D

They should release the EOS M v2.0 in the US or work on the M line more. I'm tired of seeing websites tell me how vastly inferior my mid-range Canon is one meager step above a bridge camera.

Also, I sense a some GAS afflicted persons in this thread :p

Besides maybe some more body taking advantage of the 70D sensor technology, Canon doesn't have any reason to hash out more bodies until they are ready to also switch sensor technology.

What advantage is there to announce a new body, if they don't expect the buyers to see a significant reason for upgrading?

So in the end, we just have to survive until Canon has finished their long and thirsty walk through the dry and hot desert and finally feels they have exciting things to release.

I'm pretty sure they will release at least one interesting body this year, because they do want some interesting product releases to point back to when they send out the annual report for 2014. That's not a report where they want to put all the focus on the release of a rebel body. The only big question is: who will be targeted by that "magical" release they just have to present this year. Will it be a magical video camera, or will they manage something that will compete with Sony-sensored stills cameras?

Releasing new product so often will eventually kill their own lineup of items as well as anger customers. Who wants to buy a camera item and within a few months, be outdated and have something new or marginally better? Look at Nikon. They release a D7000 or D600 and within a year, a D7100 and D610 is out with marginal upgrades. Just like the iPhone 5/5s

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be seeing EOS M v2 in the US at all. EOS M v1 didn't do well in sales in the US. So I don't think they're going to waste their time and money on something that won't sell well. v1 did very well in Asia though hence the v2.

They make fantastic cameras. Their sensors - or, more specifically, their A/D conversion - need a lot of work...

I think you'll see a new mirrorless Canon on all markets. That v1 was a market test, without any muscle force put behind it. Canon needs more new lenses before they want to go full out on mirrorless.

But I wonder if we'll see any more mirrorless action until Canon finally have a new sensor. Why compete and fail in the hardware reviews?

I'd be surprised if they didn't do something for the soccer World Cup coming up.

Something more than an update of an 800mm lens which hardly anyone's going to buy anyway.

An 800mm lens feels too marginal to be this years focus point from the camera division. Especially since it's "just optics".

They want something that makes the investors impressed and willing to continue to back the Canon stock. So it has to be high-tech. And must be possible to present in a way that it implies Canon as not just a dominant player but preferably market leader in that niche.

Every year in the annual report, they pick one or more products from each division and write about to show what a marvelous company Canon is, and to indicate that Canon will stay a super player in their market areas.
