CaPpedDoG Member More info | Apr 10, 2014 16:25 | #1 Hey everyone, I just noticed that there is a little piece of hair inside my 70-200 ii. It moves when manually focusing the lens. It has set off my OCD and now I can't forget it's there! Doesn't seem to show up in pics at least. I don't know how the hell it would have made it's way in there. Would you guys just forget about it or should I send it in to Canon? If it weren't such an expensive lens I wouldn't made such a big deal about it. What to do... what to do..

Apr 10, 2014 16:30 | #3 Haha, of course I agree. A little piece of hair isn't gonna stop me from shooting. But how would a piece of hair get way inside my lens like that? Especially on a 70-200 ii. Does this mean it's susceptible to more dust/hair down the road?

The only thing you need to worry about is moisture. Everything else will always get in there, and you are taking needless risk by pulling your lens apart to remove something that isn't affecting the way light refracts through the lens.

I've always been OCD when it comes to my camera gear. When I spot something small, and even if I know it won't cause a problem, I just can't seem to forget about it. pwm2 wrote in post #16824627 I guess it got there during fabrication. I guess it must have. I never noticed it before. Perhaps it was along the edge and made it's way towards the centre.

And Dre is right, stop looking in the lens all the time. No good comes of it because you'll always find something. It wiil definitely bug you all the time even though it is not affecting your images, If you dont worry about the warranty, you can open the front elements if you have the confidence in doing it. I just recently cleaned the inside of my 24 105 lens and it was easy. but of course, yours is preety way expensive than my L lens. Just sharing my thought okay, not telling you should it.
