So how Otus will explain the 400% higher price?

Heavier than 24-70 II and 85mm front lens diameter, that should be a little monster.

This is an Otus killer, which is smaller, lighter and has AF.

None of the current 50mm can come close....don't even compare this to anything Canikon.

Please stop. It's not a competition. There are compelling reasons to opt for alternatives, including the Zeiss. There's no killing, death, dismemberment, or any such thing.

Huh? You scared? Or your 50L has just dropped 40% of its resale value?

Of course it's a competition. They are all in to make profit.

It's not a competition in this forum. I don't have a 50mm of any sort, but it'd be nice to read about them without every thread devolving into a brand war.

Sorry to burst your bubbles, but this is a lens forum, and people come here to discuss and compare lenses.

So yes this Sigma is a direct competition to various 50mm-ish currently on the market.

The lens diameter may be 85.4mm, but the filter thread is only 77mm.

Canon 24-70 II 88.5mm x 113mm, weighs 805 grams, and has a 82mm filter thread.
Sigma 50 Art 85.4mm x 99mm, weighs 815 grams, and has a 77mm filter thread.

Damn... If only Sigma can stop the crazy AF shift in artificial light. That was the ONLY flaw of the 35 art, but enough that it has put a sour enough taste in my mouth from trying another (I tried two), until I hear otherwise. And I have read a few recent reviews still talking about that issue on brand new 35's... So I guess it has not been fixed/solved yet.

Bummer... Because this 50 looks like it will be so good.
