Took some misc portrait shots for a friend today. Never really attempted anything like this. Not sure if they are any good…

Nice pictures but the light was working against you. Maybe a little earlier in the day and a reflector or two.

Image #3 looks a little overexposed to me, unless that was the look you were going for. A quick levels adjustment, and you could bring out the darks a bit more to add some more contrast.

Is it just me or do all these photos seem a bit soft, not in good sharp focus?

They are tack sharp in LR5 on my MAC. I am exporting them as full size jpg files and then uploading them to Photobucket. I always am disappointed in the final images I post on here. Any thoughts or suggestions would be most helpful regarding that.

Thanks for the other feedback. Yeah light was a problem and I did not have a reflector to use. I used my flash (480 vs. II) for most of the pictures. I used my 70-200 ISII for most of the shots. The inside barn shots were done with my Tamron VC 17-50.

Again this was my first real attempt at Portraits. I am going to purchase a couple of reflectors to use in the future. I am not doing this for payment only as a hobby so I am not expecting that I will achieve professional results but I would like to get close.

@ OP - I had similar "soft" images when I posted here, with similar comments by other posters.
Photobucket has terrible compression/algorythms!
Since then I started using flickr to upload images and link, its waaaaay better, at any size.

Regarding the pics, I think they a great first attempt, good framing. As others have stated, Just the control of light. Also, maybe warm up the images a bit, they look a bit on the cool side.
