Can you recommend an inexpensive (film) slide viewer?

I have a bunch of old color slides from the 60's and 70's that I'd like to sort through to pick which ones to scan. Can anyone recommend a simple/cheap slide viewer? I have one that's very basic, you hold it up to the light and apparently put it up to your eye. The problem with it is that my eyes can't focus on something only two inches away, and when I hold it further away the image is too small to see any detail. I'd like something that would enlarge the image and have a battery powered light source. Any ideas? There are lots of old slide viewers on eBay, but I have no idea which one to get.

You might try something like the Pana-View at http://www.amazon.com …0AE6G9/ref=pd_sim_dbs_p_1 (external link). This viewer is also likely to be on eBAy for slightly less cost. But to be honest, to see them in detail you will either have to either project them or scan them. In our area Jack's Cameras will scan and burn them to CD for a reasonable price.

Growing up, my dad had one similar to this: http://www.ebay.com …lide-Viewer-/251499738966 (external link)
You stack a bunch of slides on one side, and you push each slide through, and it spits it out the other side. Worked great, just don't go too fast, or it'll try and push 2 at once. The one my dad had was all metal. For $6 I think it'll do what you need it to do. There are also battery powered versions.

If steroids are illegal for athletes, should PS be illegal for models?

Thanks for the suggestions. I might be able to borrow something like you both mentioned to see if that's all I need or if I really need a slide projector. Looks like there are lots of options of eBay and even craig's list.

Get yourself a used projector, via ebay or craiglist or even your local thrift store (yes, I have seen plenty of them there!). The delight of viewing a photo projected to 4'x6' simply cannot be matched, especially in these days of pathetic and anemic 1920 x 1080 (2k) digital projection from 20Mpixel digital cameras!
