I can't believe that it's happened to me
I tried to remove some dust over the sensor with this air blower

IMAGE: http://thumbs2.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/moA0vyS-0V7c_RabMJgTIdg.jpg
and it didn't work, so I tried to push it harder and that stupid plastic stick blew away and hit the sensor :(

thats a scratch for sure right? can I do anything?

Just an update - today I took the camera for a sensor cleaning service and the scratch disappeared ! :D
The sensor is crystal clear so im really relieved, and I learned my lesson. :)

Wow, doesn't look good... I'd at least try to wet clean it... Then I'd want to jump off a roof.

Were you using a Giotto's Rocket Blower?

not an expert but it looks more like a smudge; it might be indeed damage as it was a plastic part hitting it
btw, blowers are not good to use for cleaning sensors - they only spread and relocate dust somewhere else...inside the sensor area. However they help do a pre-cleaning job in the mirror chamber.
At this point, as it seems that you don't have the right tools, technique and patience to do a proper cleaning job, and before you cause (further?) sensor damage, take it to your local camera store, and get it done professionally

This^. It's likely a smudge, but one that's on there good now. Take it to a camera shop and let them give it a proper wet cleaning. Sure you could do it yourself, it's not hard, but do you have the patience to do it right? That's up to you.

I really don't want to try cleaning it again, especially with a way that needs a physical contact..
And no, I used a fake canon rocket blower that I got from ebay.

so if Ill send it to sensor cleaning service is there a chance it will fix this?

I feel really bad right now because I love this camera and it cost me alot :(

Rocket blowers have fins, that one looks like a Hurricane blower sold by LensPen. I've never heard of a Giotto's tip coming off like that.

Good possibility it is a scratch, but I'd wet-clean it first, nothing to lose at this point.

It seems somewhat unlikely that the plastic tip would scratch the glass IR filter over the sensor...

Looks like smear to me. Get a Lenspen that's made to clean sensors. It has a small triangular cleaning head, should take it right out.

There is always the crop and clone tool . . . at least it is not the middle of the sensor.

I am here to learn, so suggestions for improvement are welcome on any of my photos.

Not forgetting a decent well made Rocket Blower as well ;) FWIW you spend $$$$'s on a decent camera then use something that costs peanuts to care for it......does not make sense to me and a false economy???

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

I 'stupidly' smacked my rocket blower against my t1i sensor and thought I'd scratched it. There wasn't as much 'stuff' on the sensor afterwards, but a nice big mark.

The end of the story though, was good news, not scratched, just dirt from the rocket blower. So there is certainly hope.

Time to practice wet cleaning after you calm down a bit - you'll need it eventually anyway.

But also get a Giotto's blower.

NEVER buy junk from eBay that could have come from China or Hong Kong. You understand they don't have quality control standards there, right? And you chose that because the Giottos Rocket Blower was too expensive @ $7??? We all use the Rocket Blower for a reason man. I feel terrible for you. Don't do that again.

And there is the Giottos Rocket Blower for you. Don't care for important equipment with cheap stuff. Pay for quality if it means something to you.
