Backup Camera | Documentary

Did everyone just purchase a ton of quick release adapters and use one system, I currently have the quick release palte and adapter that came with my 500MAH head, but I would like the same setup on each device for a more fluid setup. Whats everyone using?

Although I personally shoot a 6D I don't think I would recommend jumping up to full frame if your main goal is documentary shooting. You only have one lens that would work with a full frame camera, and less depth of field isn't always a good thing(although it pains my soul to say that... I am an unashamed bokeh whore), especially during run and gun documentary shooting.

I have been using the eos M to supplement my 6D since December and I'm loving it. Having magic lantern on there makes it a little beast of a video camera. For the price I don't think you can beat the M+22 for a super compact camera. Just remember that its very light and you'll want to have it on a tripod/monopod most of the time to combat the camera shake induced by using such a lightweight body.

Not as dated as the 60D or 5Dmk3

However, video is not the 6D's strong suit with the lack of a moire filter. I would go for a 70D and use the 60D as the secondary

Thats what I was thinking as well, for less than $350 you're basically a T4i from what I'm reading. I may take this route. I jus have to find someone selling one.

I've been slowly puttign pieces together for my documentary, since my KickStarter didn't do well I've had to save and purchase these pieces slower than I anticipated. I notice in a lot of documentaries I watch most of them have a 3 camera setup, I'm doing a one man documentary and I jus feel like that may be hard to operate, but a 2 camera setup is needed.

Should I take the money I have and get another 60D? Or purchase a T3i, or maybe a 70D and use the 60D as the secondary camera? or a EOS m with a 22mm for the close ups. I want to use the money I have to buy everything I need, my gear list is in my signature, I've never done a documentary before but I want to make sure I have all the essential pieces.

Only thing I really need that I can think of is a boompole, a tripod and maybe another Rode SmartLav, what would you all do? Do I need another lens?

A T3i with Magic Lantern will do the job great, although I recommend not using it's audio or audio-in jack (except for syncing). You can basically shoot at a bitrate as high as your SD card will accept, and the resulting video is an editing friendly MOV (mp4+PCM). I was able to edit the video on an iPad.
