Canon Speed Challenge #326

Low Key


For this challenge we'll refer to low key images as images whose data fall primarily on the left side of the histogram. Please bear in mind there is a difference between low key and underexposed. ;):lol: Please remember to put your image name in the post title and to add the exif data under the image.:cool:

This challenge begins when posted, and will end at 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Friday, 25th of April 2014. Winner of this challenge will be announced shortly thereafter.


Standard Rules apply:
Photo Submissions:

1. Camera - Any Canon DSLR Camera
2. Time - any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible, although photos that have won other competitions should NOT be entered.
3. Size - Please visit Image Posting Rules.
4. Post-Processing - do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.
5. Posting - * ONE PHOTO per photographer in each challenge.* Photo Name in the message subject line.* Camera model & lens used.* Notes -- post brief EXIF data including ISO, shutter speed and aperture used.
6. Commenting - No commenting during challenge. When the posting is closed and a winner has been declared, comments can be made in this thread.
7. Keep it clean, and both Family and Work safe.
8. Have questions, PM me.
9. Have FUN!


One challenge every week, on the following schedule:

* New Topic - After winner is declared.
* Posting Starts - Right after topic is announced.
* Posting Ends - 10:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, 25th of April 2014.
* Winner from this competition decides the theme of the next one (and judges it for a winner) after this competition is closed.

This is the only thing I have thats "real" low key but do not judge it. Shot with Leica MM.

Wow, some very cool images this week. It was a toss up for me this week between Don and Mr ejrj. I have decided to go with ejrj6586 because I like the humorous aspect of the image; but really, some great images all around so thanks everyone!

Congratulations folks. Nice images. I do have to hand it to Allen to produce a truly low key image or at least an image where so few if any values (zone system) are above zone IV. I have zero low key images in the Canon collection. Oddly enough there was a debate concerning high key such that high key is not simply an image with all high tones but requires lighting saturation in the frame; literally blowing out detail in the frame. Since low key is an absence of light you would literally have to shoot into the darkness of night to obtain a real low key. The debate has not been settled either and most likely never will.

Nice going ejrj....... And great entries from all. I am not really good at high or low key photography so I came in to this challenge blindly :)
