do you think the extender like this https://photography-on-the.net …372794&highlight=extender will bump the focal length up enough?

- a 1.4x TC will multiple your focal length by 1.4x, but cost you a stop of light (so if you were shooting at f2.8, you are now shooting at f4), DOF, and a bit of IQ hit

- a 2x TC will multiple your focal length by 2x, but cost you 2 stops of light (so if you were shooting at f2.8, you are now shooting at f5.6), even more DOF, and more of an IQ hit

Due to the light stoppage, you will need to compensate with lower shutter or higher ISO to shoot the same material at the same exposure as without the TC, but you get more reach with a bit less IQ. It's all about tradeoffs, money, reach, light, and IQ. :)

Tell me how that goes if you ever shoot bears, lions, tigers, and crocs, or parents that start fighting at a kids game! :lol:

Will effect AF speed and quality of the picture for sure.

The 5D mark III is a great portrait camera, not the best for sports focus tracking on a moving object, had one and just my view.

I shot the entire NBA season this time around with a 5D3, it did just as good as my 1D4. If you couldn't get the 5D3 to do sports well, you most likely didn't explore all the settings under the 4 or so AF menus, or didn't use the correct AF mode. It shares the same AF as your 1DX.

I was able to track with outer points, pull the camera up at a moment's notice and lock on a dunking player, etc.

Is this all for the 5D?. Oh well. My first attempt at this so I did not really prepare.

We are on version 4 of the "Official" 5D3 thread here;

https://photography-on-the.net …read.php?t=1407652&page=1

No merge, so I am going to close this one due to confusion.

Talk about a thread bump! But if there's some issues of sports with 5D3, I don't see it. Suppose if you're a burst mode shooter, the 5D3 isn't so great....but I have been pretty impressed with it's AI tracking. I'm more of a pan and shoot when I see the moment. Just last week I was at a bike race And got some good shots of the top bikers riding towards me:
