Forest Kingfisher with a yummy lunch at Fogg Dam yesterday. I spent quite a while trying to figure out what she'd caught. I think it's a marbled frog in transition from tadpole to adult.

Crappy photo but I've never seen a Golden-headed Cisticola before. A breeding male in fine voice at the top of a small tree on the dune behind Casuarina Beach. It's a huge crop and was a hot day so heat-haze affected too. But he flew off before I could get closer.

another small one
Brown Thornbill - Acanthiza pusilla
Beautiful small birds that chase after insects and seem to follow along with the Superb Fairy Wrens
They don't sit still for long.

Beautiful photos of your magnificent Kingfishers
Are they the same bird?

You certainly captured that moment Pippan. Rather a rare find I imagine

I looked these up and sounds like you were very fortunate indeed to get one out in the open.
Came out very well despite your concerns

Thanks Richard. I think the kingfisher shots were the same bird but there were two perched there, both females.

I heard the cisticola calling and followed the sound, though I didn't know what bird it was until I looked through the viewfinder.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

Eastern curlew on a mission, on Casuarina Beach near Darwin yesterday. These birds breed in summer in the wetlands of far north-east Asia and holiday on the Australian coast during the northern winter. They are listed as critically endangered under Australia's environmental law.

A Red-collared Lorikeet maintaining its sugar high with nectar from the flowers of a large paperbark tree on the edge of the monsoon forest behind Casuarina Beach. When paperbarks flower the air around them is redolent of sweet honey scent.
