Wow, that's close! And sharp.

Thanks Pippan. They are very good posers :-P

A Red-collared Lorikeet maintaining its sugar high with nectar from the flowers of a large paperbark tree on the edge of the monsoon forest behind Casuarina Beach. When paperbarks flower the air around them is redolent of sweet honey scent.

That's colourful and so typical of our sugar chasing birds
I can relate to the scent. When our gums, and particularly our (true) Blue Gum flowers the scent is heavenly.

These are very pretty ducks. I love seeing them here.
Wasn't aware of them being called such. Learn every day :-)
Here we call them Wood Duck

Eastern curlew on a mission, on Casuarina Beach near Darwin yesterday. These birds breed in summer in the wetlands of far north-east Asia and holiday on the Australian coast during the northern winter. They are listed as critically endangered under Australia's environmental law.

I love these birds! We don't see them this far north but from about Katherine south you do. Thirty or forty in a flock and incessantly chattering.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

Beautiful and different bird with an interesting call.

Had to look them up
Not unlike some Wattlebird (call) here but also different

And I know them as Maned Wood ducks (but they are in fact more closely related to geese than ducks)

Yes Lame-Duck said they look like geese when I posted one ages ago.

I found 2 shots of the male and female separately focused and did a merge. It wasn't aligned perfectly and I had to do a bit of healing etc. Not the best, but passable I would think.

Apparently Rufous-banded Honeyeaters eat more than just honey.

Well caught on both accounts Pippan :-)

I was surprised that all ours do same.
I'd watched them rummaging in the bark crevices and coming out with insects.
They're fascinating to watch

Thanks Richard, yeah, I think most of them have a much more varied diet than just nectar, but you do see them a lot in flowering trees.

I suppose for at least ours here there wouldn't be blossom all year round
Ours don't migrate
